Creative Event Planning Opportunity!

Our project is growing!! After launching Unbridaled Expo this year, we are looking to expand everything (seriously, everything!!!) for our next show, including another member for our team:

Creative, excited, energetic person needed to help plan and execute Philadelphia's alternative wedding expo. We have one very successful expo under our belt and are building this year's to be more of what we are: local, handmade and green solutions that allow individuality to be the focus of the event, not the brand name or money spent. Assistance needed with locating and securing sponsors, coordinating the fashion show, and working with local vendors as well as event-specific tasks.

Check out the slide show from the Daily News:
http://www.philly.com/dailynews/gallery/Unbridaled_Fashion_Show_and_Expo.html

and our site: http://unbridaledexpo.com/

If you are looking for a creative opportunity to be a part of an industry project with a serious heart, here is your chance!! This internship will expose the right person to business development, event management, community outreach and time management. We need someone who can and wants to contribute toward being part of something new and growing.

The right person will be organized, personable, efficient, creative, and self motivated. If you are interested, let us know why and little bit about your experience. Please forward to unbridaledexpo@gmail.com. Thanks!

Hello all,

Please allow me to introduce myself and my label.

"Witchazel Design is a conduit for creative expression though clothes,
costumes, accoutrements, and textile art. Shana's work is influenced
by the performing arts, but with street-wear aspirations. Currently
informed by modern lines, tribal trappings, and vaudevillian splendor,
Shana combines seemingly disparate influences and materials into an
original fusion. Small production runs, one-of-a-kinds and custom
orders provide clients with truly inventive and fanciful pieces. The
studio is home to design development, production, and a boutique. Open
by appointment."

Become a part of "bAbeL - art project"

Dear brothers and sisters,

i study art therapy in Germany and work on the arty part of my diploma at the moment - and i invite you to support my work “ babel“!
Babel is about the try to cancel the moment of disintegration, it is about identity, community,structure and the basic needs of human beings and it is about you as well, when you join this project;
Please send me one article of your clothing, which you don`t need
anymore (it doesn`t matter if there is a mark on it, a cut in it, the
zipper is not working anymore etc.) and a word (in your language, a
word, which you like, which you don`t like, which you use often or
never, it can be a name, too) to this adress :

Sandra Becker
Hunscheidtstraße 162
44789 Bochum
Germany

in case you like to send me more material - like little messages,
infomation about you, your life, your country, the article of clothing
( maybe there is a story about it - you never liked to wear it, it was
a gift, you wore it in an important moment) - i will be pleased about
it.
my plan is to put all together in a new way - so that there will be one dress and one poem at the end for one performance/ film/installation, but it is not clear how it will be exactly - at least the most important thing depends on you. maybe the dress and the poem will go on a journey again, maybe they will come back to you, maybe you get a message from them, maybe you won´t see them again, maybe....the ideas become more and more with every package i get from you what ever will happen - i let you know. and be sure; whenever you give something - you get something.
the artwork will be shown at the diploma exhibition of the FH Ottersberg (Germany) on march 21th 2008.
you will find a documentation on my tribe-blog.

i hope that it will be possible to support me,
looking forward to get a message from you,

Become a part of babel !

Hello all,

I am actively trying to spread the word about a t-shirt design contest I'm running called "Rock Your Wear". It's a contest wherein artists, such as you, can upload up to ten original designs to be considered for a grand cash prize of $1500. The contest is only open to all. Please have a look at the site. I'd love for you to register your name and submit some artwork.

All the designs you submit remain your property even if you win. We simply want to get creative people to join so we can build a great community around a new website i'm launching called Wordans.com.

I urge you to have a look!
check out Rock Your Wear at: http://www.wordans.com/rockyourwear/en

Hi

We are in search of a select few indiviual fashion designers to feature on our new site www.lookbooklive.com, set to make a global launch in a few months (you will see it in the press quite soon!). We are looking for design with real character and thought tribe.net would be a good place to find some talent. It will involve showcasing you work to a global audience before the site officially launches but that's all we can really say at the moment. If you're interested and think you have what it takes please leave your name and e-mail address on our holding page and we will personally contact you.
Thanks

The Lookbook Team.

I've had a few friends travel to Bali and Thailand, and come back with these awesome fanny pack/belts made of leather with cool pockets and rivets. Basically rockstar/tribal looking belts with pockets. Anyone got any leads to get them in the US? I would like to get them in to sell at the shop, so wholesale would be great.

Pandora's Trunk Call for Artists

Pandora’s Trunk call for Artists

Pandora’s Trunk is a bi-monthly eclectic arts showcase in SoMa SF. The show has a fashion/sample sale focus but has included a broad variety of artists and artisans – at our last show we had a chocolatier, a masseuse, fine arts sculptors, a violist and a singer/songwriter playing tag team, as well as fashion & accessories designers.

December 9th was our 4th show and was well attended even through the pouring rain. The event is growing in leaps and bounds through targeted advertising and a ton of great press. The next event will be on Feb. 3rd, with a focus around the theme of recycling and re-use. If you are interested in presenting your work in this showcase, please check out our website and then email us and tell a little bit about yourself and your work – links to images or your website, whatever you’ve got. Please don’t send us huge files, they’re a pain and you know it. We’re especially interested in offbeat projects – a jug band, with instruments made from reclaimed objects? Unusual sculpture? There is a lot of overhead space so anything that can hang from the ceiling is great. Some preference will be given to commercially viable projects and projects that address the theme but any suggestions will be entertained.

Musicians will be paid.
Any vendors will not pay a table fee but instead a flat percentage of your sales.
The show is free to all and comes with free booze. It’s a lot of fun to do. There is no end deadline but space is limited and once enough people are in, you are out of luck. I hope to have a mostly final lineup by the end of the year.

leads on rad hemp clothes

im chucking vintage clothes in lieu of HEMP fibers! they feel so much better on my body and its increasingly difficult to wear other things, including vintage goods and esp synthetic fibers. whats up with the designs, though??? i found one cutesy label made by this cutesy girl from seattle- mira, of sweetskins.com. other than her stuff the vast (vast!) majority of what ive seen thus far is a lil too earth-mama for me, so i still rock the natural high yoga-camping style clothes more than anything else. wondering if anyone has any other leads into groovy hemp (or mostly hemp) wear...
thank you.

I've decided to go back and get a degree in fashion design. Does anyone have suggestions of schools? Does a bachelor's matter versus an AA? I already have a BS-Psychology and was hoping to go back for a year or two for fashion design? Does it matter what school, or is it just important to take the classes?

Any suggestions/help would be so much appreciated!

Thank you!

call for VENDORS and SWAG for DIY event in NOLA

The New Orleans Craft Mafia is proud to be a sponsor of the fifth installment of the ANTIGRAVITY Alternative Media Expo in New Orleans, LA. The Expo will take place on Saturday, August 19, 2006 at the Howlin' Wolf.

The Expo features exhibitors with 'zines, comics, photography, t-shirts, music, crafts, and other art and media. The Expo will run from 4pm to 10pm and the cover price is $5. Almost every type material is accepted, but if you have questions about whether yours would be, don't hesitate to contact Leo at expo@antigravitymagazine.com.

Vendor applications are being accepted now. You can download yours at http://www.antigravitymagazine.com.

If you cannot make the trip to New Orleans to participate as a vendor, please consider contributing to the swag bags. Vendors may also participate in the swag bags.

The swag bags will be distributed to the first 250 customers to enter the doors at the Expo. You do not have to send 250 items; you can send as few as you like.

Some swag suggestions include: coupons, stickers, buttons, pens, keychains, CD/DVD samplers, blank notecards/stationary, or other small samples of your products. We ask that you do send actual swag items and not just promotional materials such as business cards or flyers. You can send these attached to your swag, of course. The deadline for sending in swag material is July 31, 2006.

For more information on contributing to the swag bags, including the address to send the swag to, please email Rachelle at swag@neworleanscraftmafia.com.

looking for clothing designers who are going to Burningman this year, who would like to submit a small collection for a fashion show at Burningman. Any designers, who wish to participate, will be expected to attend all meetings during the summer, have ideas/sketches and garments due at proposed dates, and be willing to help out before/during/ and after the show. Example: finding models, creative ideas in terms of choreography and music, set up/clean up and distributing flyers, finding volunteers to do make up ect. We have the space/camp. The theme will be that of this years burn, but with our own creative interest. The ideal time of the show will be later in the week during the mid afternoon (so we have natural lighting, less to worry about) but will not be a guarantee until enough designers have agreed to take on this project. Email me with any questions.
Thank you

sf designers unite

i've got this bee in my bonnet about not being paid to do fashion shows for club gigs... they pay the DJ, they pay other performers ( case in point, Anon Salon where they paid the acrobats but not the designers for about the same length of show) the designers usually wind up paying the models in clothes, and basically, in the end we're out a few hundred in lost stock, not to mention the lost work hours.

Anybody interested in a bunch of us banding together and deciding a base fee for such things? I can't be the only designer fed up with this situation. I don't want to have to just stop doing fashion shows altogether ( Which is what i've done since the summer) but i feel like this is something we should unanimously agree on.

any thoughts?

hello tribers
this is a personally hand-typed request for your help
not an automated advertisement looking to generalize...

The Art Exchange: what do you need? what do you want to get rid of? Or are you just looking for some extra cash, some inspiration, or bargain gratification? You don't need to be an "artist" to enjoy this space, it is more on the level of an indoor flea market that has whatever you need and may also have a movie playing on a giant projector screen, or a buffet of tainted goodies.
We are trying to encourage people to re-evaluate their garbage. Most of us at the Art and Found warehouse are dumpster divers and see how much people waste every day. I don't know about you, but I'm sick of paying for things that I only use once, or paying a tax on something that is already overly priced.

WHAT IF... We didn't need money for anything but food and rent? What if all the things you want to buy along the way, you can get by trading something you are about to throw to the curb? Imagine if this idea took off, and eventually you could barter a deal with your landlord and get out of paying rent. Think of the people you would be connected with, the events you would hear about along the way, and the elimination of stress over being poor.

The Art and Found: Its a warehouse in West Oakland filled to its brim with pretty much everything/anything: clothes, furniture, instruments, tools, computers, bikes, car parts, costumes, ART SUPPLIES, craft supplies, collectibles, jewelry.... I mean everything. And its the place you can sell your stuff at, and its the place you can call if you are looking for something to buy at a cheaper rate, and its the place that is going to hopefully take back what we have invested in capitalism so we can start living off the waste of it instead.

I'm getting pretty excited

As a start... Become a member of the Art Exchange Tribe
Call us if you need something/want to sell something...
(518) 435 5924
check it out with your own eyes: THIS SATURDAY!!! And every Saturday
Open Flea Market from noon to dinner time
THANK YOU FOR READING THIS long ass thing

Olivia Royale

Question for mod and members

Hi everyone,

Last week I posted, as I usually do, my auctions in several tribe of which I am a member. In another tribe I had some problems with a few of the members there about it. They didn't think that I should post auctions. Someone said I should post my auctions in the listings. I bring this up because I'd like to avoid this problem again. I had to quit that tribe because one of the members was getting nasty. I'd hate to quit this tribe. So what I want to know is if my posts bother you guys to the point where you don't think I should post. If they do would you prefer I post in the listings? Thanks for your input!

And for those interested here are my latest auctions:

I've listed the first of the pieces of my collection that I am going to sell. These are the last items from Lux Dilemma 2005 as I am no longer taking orders from that line. Once they're gone they ar gone for good. I also have a few new items up.

"My Favorite" top
Anime dragon print pleated skirt
Handmade boucle legwarmers

Thanks for looking!

Do you require a downpayment for orders? How much?

I'm getting ready to display my line of mens clothing at the Pool trade show in Las Vegas at the end of August...and I'm just not quite sure what the best way to take orders is.

If this is not ok to post, please feel free to delete it.

So I came back from vacation to discover that about half of my mailing list was somehow deleted! #%&^!!! I have no idea how this happened or how to fix it. I am unable to recover the emails that were lost and my site host doesn't know how it happened either. Big mystery. So I have to ask everyone who was a member of the list a favor: please re-sign up for the mailing list. That is if you want to keep updated with auctions and such as usual. And of course, I occasionally do "mailing list only" sales and contests. So now I have to go post this everywhere I can think of to try to get those 75 members back. *sigh*

A large accordion file at least 18 by 24 inches. I need this to be able to store my patterns vertically and categorize them. I remember these from art supply stores back in the days but I have been looking everywhere for a long time and have not found this yet. Already checked staples, art store etc. Anyone know where to get this?

I'm looking for someone with an eclectic, european, hip, perhaps even studious appearance to model jeans for a catalog. scruffy looking types are also appreciated. (so basically anyone who doesn't look like average mid-western farm boy)

while I really don't have a budget, I can give you some cool jeans AND digital pictures from the shoot.

If you are available in or near Los Angeles at the end of July and would like to be in our catalog, please send me some email.

Thanks!

Volunteers: A Vanguard Magazine now available online (volunteersmag.com)

Volunteers: A Vanguard Magazine (www.volunteersmag.com) is cultivating a new intellectual and cultural avant garde online. The magazine is intended to be a reflection of our generation, and hopefully it will be able to function as a flint of sorts in igniting awareness and support for those behind this burgeoning creative movement. (Our first issue is now available. check it out!!)

Vanguard you ask? Yes. Vanguard we say.

Volunteers Magazine seeks out what is new and uncharted. You know youre brilliant; we know youre brilliant; so lets get together and start a revolution.

We are a quarterly periodical devoting each issue to the exploration of a broad theme. Much like curating an art show, the work in each issue will loosely correlate with the chosen topic. The first issue's theme is evolution. We believe this is an appropriate premiere topic because we intend Volunteers to be an evolution of the magazine in its online format.

We are currently accepting submissions for issue 02, the theme for which will be duality (with a focus on the binary aspects of life). As we now have one issue under our belt, we feel we can be more aggressive and stimulating in our content. All contributions are unpaid (sorry). Also we are exclusively an online magazine. If youre interested in submitting, please contact us at:

submissions@volunteersmag.com

For all other inquiries, info@volunteersmag.com.

To join our mailing list, send an email to mailinglist@volunteersmag.com
**we're also on myspace: www.myspace.com/volunteersmag

Need leads on boutiques....

Can anyone in the L.A. , San Franscisco, and New York area give me any leads on any upscale boutiques that carry higher end, independent designers? My line is a edgy, feminine, high quality....www.ipseitydesigns.com. Preferably wholesale buying shops as opposed to consignment....but open to consignment as an option. Any leads in any direction would be a huge help!

Thanks!
